The Platinum/Palladium Printing Process
"When noble metals meet a cotton rag under the sun..."
Between collectors and museums the platinum/palladium prints are well known for their exceptional beauty, archival stability and unique print statement. Purely handmade the workflow starts with mixing platinum and palladium salts, followed by brush application on a cotton rag to sensitize the paper.
A negative is then placed on top of the paper and both paper&negative are exposed under UV light. The final print is instantly revealed when the exposed media is submerged within the developer.
These prints, when cleaned properly through a series of baths have archival life of hunderds of years.
This hand print process creates unique prints characterized from "depth", rich blacks and ethereal highlights. The process and its complexity along with it's handmade ascpect eliminates the possibility to develop purely identical prints. Instead, I consider them as truly unique prints of the same negative, crafted with a technique discovered more than 150 years ago.
